Afton Chemical Office, Laboratory, Change House and Site Improvements
Richmond, Virginia

Afton Chemical Corporation, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, has a chemical plant in Feluy, Belgium, where it develops and manufactures petroleum additives that help fuels burn cleaner and more efficiently, engines run smoother and machines last longer.

McKinney and Company initially assisted Afton with the programming of a new facility and accompanying sitework on the site of their existing chemical plant in Feluy, Belgium. McKinney then developed the conceptual plans for an administration, change house, laboratory building as well as a new 1.1 kilometer tanker truck access road together with weigh bridge and product inventory control area and developed a cost opinion for the project. Following Client approval, McKinney prepared bridge documents to enable a Program Manager to bid out design-build packages for all trade disciplines for the building and sitework and to manage the construction project.

During the construction phase of the project, McKinney participated in monthly progress meetings at the site with the Program Manager, Client representatives and contractors to ensure that client program objectives were met. The project was completed on time and under budget.
