Atlantic Union Operations Center
Caroline County, VA
Designed to meet current and future needs, the new operations center located in Caroline County gives the bank a facility to consolidate their various operations and administrative functions. The bank wanted a facility that would be large enough to accommodate future growth and flexible enough to allow for changes in those growth projections without sacrificing functionality or dividing user groups. The bank also decided to pursue various environmental initiatives to improve the building’s performance and reduce its impact on the surrounding environment. Green Roof System
The facility is approximately 70,000 SF on two stories and be constructed with a steel frame and masonry veneer. The building features numerous windows to improve employee’s visual access to the outside and allow for daylight to penetrate the space. Also, in addition to a metal roof mansard on the two story portion of the building, the building has been designed with a vegetated roofing system to improve the viewshed of employees looking across the single story portion of the building and to reduce the stormwater runoff from the building.
Other green building initiatives incorporated in the design are low impact site design, waterless urinals, low flow lavatory fixtures, CO2 monitoring, building commissioning, construction waste management, construction indoor air quality management and use of only low-emit-ting materials. The project gained LEED-NC certification.
