Screwworm Sterile Fly Production Facility
Pacora, Panamá

This Project is located in an old sugar cane plantation and was granted by the Government of Panama to the Panama US Commission for the Eradication and Prevention of Screwworm (COPEG) as part of a bilateral agreement between the two countries. With the construction of this project the biological barrier was moved from Mexico where the former plant was located to the Isthmus of Panama.

Mckinney & Company and its subsidiary in Panama, Mckinney Internacional, provided complete design services including land planning, architectural and all engineering design services, and in-field Construction Management services for the 30 months duration of the construction of the 227,000 ft2 complex. The project included a Production Plant, an Administration building, a Utility building, a Security building, a Storage and Maintenance building and and Sewage Treatment Plant.

The project consists of a combination of new construction and renovation of existing buildings. The structural tilt up panels used in the Utility building and Production Plant helped speed up the construction and ensure the required bio security in this project.
